Episode 087 - How To Share Your Brand with the World with Publicist, Susan Busse

Today on Celebrating Simple Life the Podcast, I’m chatting with Susan Busse. Sure, it says ‘publicist’ on her business card. But her real passion is being a storyteller. She works with great clients to trumpet their brands to the world. Susan has worked with all manner of musicians, artists, film companies, festivals, and businesses, to great success. Like the time music clients The North Sound were interviewed on CBC’s q with Tom Power, when fine art artist Denyse Klette was interviewed during the pandemic on CBC’s The National, when Belle Plaine covered the front page of Arts & Life in the Edmonton Journal, or when Carrie Catherine was featured as ‘Ms. Chatelaine’ in Chatelaine magazine. Her clients have an impressive list of awards and nominations. The key to Susan’s success is that she really does care about the people she is working with and their projects, becoming an invested partner. You feel that connection when she’s looking you right in the eyes as you’re explaining your next big idea to her. In what can sometimes be a cutthroat world, that ‘look you right in the eyes’ collaboration is as rare gift. In fact, she won the 2017 Western Canadian Music Award for ‘Impact in Music Marketing'. Tune in as we chat all about sharing your brand, reaching for the stars and how anything is possible when you connect with others.

Episode 081 - Revitalizing Culture Through Business with Christine Marie of Awasis Boutique

Today on Celebrating Simple Life the Podcast, I’m talking with Christine Marie, Owner of Awāsis Boutique, an online children’s boutique. As a Filipino/Indigenous Mom of two, she launched Awāsis Boutique, which means child in Cree, as the first Indigenous inspired baby and kids fashion shop in Western Canada. After seeing a gap of Indigenous inspired clothing for babies/kids on the market in Canada, she set out to fill this gap. To not only provide little ones with fashion pieces that connect them with their language and culture, but to also educate others about the Indigenous culture.

With no formal business training, she has worked hard to grow her business from the ground up. She was a CBC Top 40 under 40 finalist in 2019 and now a selection of her products are made with authentic, Indigenous themed fabric prints, that she has designed herself. You can find her goods online and in the Wanuskewin Gift Shops, Ready Set Baby, Groovy Mama Shop + more.

Join us as we chat all about how being an Indigenous inspired business, means so much more to her than just a business. She’s setting out to do her part at revitalizing the Indigenous language, intentional education about the culture, giving back to organizations that support babies and families and act on the calls of reconciliation by engaging in relationships and business partnerships with non Indigenous people. This is such an incredible conversation, so tune in!

Today on Celebrating Simple Life the Podcast, I’m talking all about how to stop reacting emotionally to triggers. I can speak from so much life experience of over reacting before knowing the full story in certain situations. This topic has been front and center in so many conversations that have come up with friends, colleagues and business owners in the past few weeks, that I knew we needed to chat about this today, so tune in.

MINISTRY OF HIGHWAYS

Celebrating Simple Life the Podcast is a proud member of the The Saskatchewan Podcast Network which is supported by the MINISTRY OF HIGHWAYS. You know me and Winter is not my favorite season, but I’m so grateful for our highway workers who operate our snow plows to keep our highways as safe as they can be, despite our awful winter weather. Did you know that Snow Plows pull over every 10-15 kms for you to pass safely. This means, that even if you are as impatient as I can, you know that you giving the snow plow some space in order to pass safely, can keep everyone safe on the roads. When passing, treat snow plows the same way you would an emergency vehicle. If a plow is pulled over and has lights flashing, slow to 60 and pass with caution. Always check the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline before travelling.

Take your time, be patient and safe. Visit saskatchewan.ca/snowzone for more information.

Episode 072 - Finding Your Sparkle with Disney Fine Art Artist, Denyse Klette

Today on Celebrating Simple Life the Podcast, I’m chatting with Artist, Denyse Klette. Denyse’s earliest memory of creating was when she was four and she spent hours copying the drawings out of her sister's 'How To Draw' book, which serendipitously was written by a Disney artist. By the age of 8 she informed her parents that she wanted to quit school to become a full time artist. When that was discouraged, by Grade 5 she was selling her line drawings to buy treats and by the age of 16 she had her first cartoon strip published in two local newspapers. 45 years later she has still never wavered in this career choice. With a background in murals, children’s portraits and eventually co-creating the Belly Button Buddies series, she very quickly became known as the artist who could capture joy in children. Through the diagnosis of her mom’s cancer and an unfortunate thumb accident, Denyse was reminded of the fragility of life and took a break from painting during this time. On her return, with a fresh perspective she created two heartfelt collections to capture life’s simple and beautiful moments. Continuing to work hard, putting herself out there and showing up even when it was hard, in 2019 her magical dream came true, when she was signed as the very first Canadian to be a Disney Fine Art artist with Collectors Edition. Tune in to hear her inspiring story of perseverance, finding your sparkle and what creating as a Disney Fine Art Artist looks like.

Episode 071 - Recovering Your Identity with Jennifer McCowan of Hope Hair Recovery

Today on Celebrating Simple Life the Podcast, I’m chatting with Jennifer McCowan WTS Certified Trichologist and Owner of Hope Hair Recovery. Jennifer has been helping people feel good about themselves as a hair stylist for the past 23 years. After experiencing tragic loss in 2010, shortly after giving birth to her second child, she experienced first hand how stress manifests itself in the body. She found suspicious lumps in each of her breasts along with 2 heart issues which then led to a significant amount of hair loss. After being told by her Dermatologist to "brace for impact, you're going to be bald by the time you're 60, she couldn't believe what was happening to her. After shopping for wigs, taking down mirrors in her house and beginning to avoid making any eye contact with anyone, she knew she had to find another way. She was driven by the simple fact that for a woman, losing her hair is like losing her identity, and she was determined to never let another woman feel like she did at that time. And so, her hair loss journey began. Tune in as we chat all about the Art of Trichology, how she connects with every client she’s has from as young as age 6 to everyone in between and how each of their life stories inspires her to continue on educating and inspiring everyone around them to never take no for answer and to never give up.
