Shining a Light on Your Business - Joy PR Studio

LAST EDITED: JANUARY 24, 2023 | BY: KIMBERLY EVANS

If you know me well enough, you will know that I would rather do anything than sell my soul, posting about products that I don’t even like. This post contains affiliate links which I am so excited to recommend to you (and make just a little money from) and would hope that if you have the opportunity to recommend products you love, you would do the same.

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on an interview with Kimberly Evans, CEO of Joy PR Studio, located in Saskatoon, SK, Canada had with Subkit.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Joy PR Studio works with heart-centered women in business to help them share their stories, get seen, reach their goals and run a business that matches their life's purpose. Through content creation, PR, marketing, and creative events, our goal is to shine a light on your business and connect you with aligned people in an authentic way to curate the life and business you deserve while experiencing a whole lot of joy along the way.

I started in the event planning industry back in 2003 and loved how every day felt different and unique. Each project had similarities and lots of creative freedom. My business has evolved a lot over the years as personal circumstances have come up, like my daughter being diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and now getting to the other side of a world pandemic. The lessons that I have learned through these unexpected circumstances have led me to where I am today. I believe that life and business should be filled with joy and that when you are aligned with what you are doing, your business will thrive. Getting to work with so many incredible women in business over the years who are passionate about what they do. They are juggling business, life, family, and all the hats that women wear and are doing their best to share their stories vulnerably and authentically. Being a part of sharing their story and helping them rise is so fulfilling and rewarding.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Just being in business for almost twenty years feels like an incredible accomplishment because that doesn't happen for everyone, and I'm so grateful. I started The Joy Curator Podcast in 2019 and have over 100 episodes now with entrepreneurs from all over the world. I had no idea what I was doing when I started, but I researched, found equipment, learned along the way, and feel so proud of getting this off the ground on my own. It has been instrumental in making some beautiful connections and sharing stories all around the world.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Owning a business is unpredictable, at best, and comes with a roller coaster of emotions, ideas, and opportunities that you have to just get comfortable riding. It can be easy to get into our own heads about whether or not we feel cut out for this, imposter syndrome, seeing others doing things better, and that can sometimes mess with you a bit. I have found that keeping myself well both mentally and physically and surrounding myself with a community of business owners and friends who are there to support me makes owning a business so much better.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

If you are looking to start a business, find yourself a mentor that you trust to talk it through. There needs to be a balance between planning ahead and just going for it. Secondly, surround yourself with other business owners who support you. Community is a game changer in business, and it makes the highs and lows so much more manageable. Thirdly, trust your instincts. If you feel that starting this business is the direction you are supposed to go, then go for it, and don't let anyone tell you that you can't. Be smart about listening to your close community who are looking out for you, and then just decide that you are making this happen and never be afraid to ask for help.
